My current fave products for contouring & highlighting

So I think it's safe to say that 2014 was the year that people went a bit contour crazy. Contouring and highlighting has actually been done by makeup artists for years and is also commonly used for drag makeup. I have quite a round face so I love to give my face a bit of shape and give myself some cheekbones! To be honest I've never been one for the whole cream product thing like the photos that you see circulating Instagram and Pinterest, I think you can get a gorgeous, just as effective look using the these products, and in half the time.

Mac cream colour base in pearl
This is a gorgeous cream highlighter, with a frost finish. In the pan it looks quite gold toned but on the skin it is more of a pearly off white. I prefer to apply this to my cheekbones with my fingers, and it looks stunning on photos from nights out etc.

Nars albatross
This is a new purchase for me, but it has been on my wishlist for SO long! This can be found in the blusher section at any Nars counter and comes in a powder form. This is a white power with gold shimmer through it.

Mac prep and prime in light boost
I honestly don't know how I ever lived without this little pen in my life! This is a cream product with a slight yellow undertone. It is quite pigmented and is more of a highlighting concealer type product. I use this underneath my eyes in a triangle sort of shape and up onto my cheekbones and blend in with a brush. I also sometimes use a bit down the centre of my nose and on my chin. I always use this in that area and then follow with one of the other highlighters on my cheekbones.

I currently have 2 favourite products for contouring and these both come in powder form.

Mac blusher in Harmony
I have used this blusher from Mac as a contour product for years now after a Mac artist recommended it to me. I have it in pan form for my palette but took it out for this post, and as you can see it is well loved. I think this is my third one.

Nars blusher in zen
This is another new product for me. I know a lot of people use Nars bronzer in Laguna for contouring but I think bronzers can be far too orange toned for contouring and most do not work at all (although I think Benefit Hoola bronzer is perfect for it) but anyway.. This blusher was recommended to me by the makeup artist at the Nars counter. I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and I love it!

And finally I thought I would show my 2 current favourite brushes for applying my contour. First is my new Charlotte Tilbury powder and sculpt brush. It doesn't look like much just looking at it, but this gets into the hollows of your cheeks just perfectly and helps blend the product really naturally. The second brush is my Illamasqua 'blush up brush' This has a unique flat shape and is good for when you want a more defined and dramatic contour.

I hope you enjoyed this post! What are your favourite products for contouring and highlighting? Let me know in the comments!
